2024 | ¡Que coman pasteles!

A piece inspired by the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, blending the classic aesthetics of Toile de Jouy with the equestrian competitions held at Versailles. The work includes cinematic references (Marie Antoinette, Sofia Coppola; Orlando, Sally Potter), 18th-century courtly aesthetics and designs from the Oberkampf factory. The design creates a comical, pop scene in which four anonymous participants compete in the Gardens of Versailles among statues, fountains and “keep off the grass” signs, while horses wearing aristocratic wigs jump ironically. The piece combines landscape, architecture and equestrian iconography with a humour that updates tradition, culminating in a title that alludes to the famous phrase attributed to Marie Antoinette: “If they have no bread... let them eat cake!”.

Work selected for the 26th Unicaja Foundation Craftsmanship Award. Exhibited at the Villardompardo Palace Cultural Centre in Jaén in 2024 and at the Unicaja Foundation Cultural Centre in Antequera, Malaga, in 2025.
